Tottenham transfer news: Who could Jose Mourinho sign in January? (Image: GETTY)
Tottenham have confirmed Jose Mourinho as their new manager after sacking Mauricio Pochettino following a poor run of form.
It is Mourinho’s first role in management since he was fired by Manchester United last year.
Spurs are currently 14th in the Premier League, 11 points off the top four, so the Portuguese boss has plenty of work to do in order to secure Champions League football next season.
And Mourinho could look to bolster his new squad in the January transfer market, but which players could move to north London?
Paulo Dybala (Juventus)
Tottenham made a late bid for Dybala at the end of the summer window before a move collapsed at the final moment.
But Christian Eriksen looks almost certain to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season so a replacement remains a priority.
Mourinho could resurrect a deal for the Argentine, who is far from a guaranteed starter under Maurizio Sarri at Juventus.Tottenham transfer news: Paulo Dybala was linked with Spurs in the summer (Image: GETTY)
Bruno Fernandes (Sporting Lisbon)
Fernandes was heavily linked with a move to United in the summer as the Red Devils looked for more goalscoring options from midfield.
And Tottenham have a similar deficiency so Mourinho could look to spite his former club by swooping in for the 25-year-old.
Fernandes scored 20 goals and 13 assists for Sporting last season and would provide a ready-made replacement for Eriksen and the misfiring Dele Alli.Tottenham transfer news: Mourinho could swoop in for long-term United target Bruno Fernandes (Image: GETTY)
Declan Rice (West Ham United)
Mourinho is a known admirer of Rice, having tried to sign the England international during his time at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old was scouted several times by United but signed a new long-term contract last season, committing his future to the club until 2024.
However, a dire string of results under Manuel Pellegrini could see Rice seek pastures new.Tottenham transfer news: Mourinho is an admirer of Declan Rice (Image: GETTY)
Eric Bailly (Manchester United)
Tottenham have been poor defensively this season, with Pochettino unable to field a consistent centre-back partnership due to contract issues and injury problems.
Toby Alderweireld, a long-time target of Mourinho at United, looks set to leave the club when his deal expires at the end of the season and Jan Vertonghen is also set to leave so Mourinho could turn to United defender Bailly to plug the gap.
Mourinho signed the Ivorian from Villarreal three years ago but Bailly has not been able to secure a first-team spot due to a succession of injuries.
He is out of contract in the summer and while reports suggest United are considering an extension, the 25-year-old may opt for a reunion with his former gaffer.Tottenham transfer news: Eric Bailly has struggled with injuries at Old Trafford (Image: GETTY)
Diogo Dalot (Manchester United)
Tottenham are light in the right-back department following Kieran Trippier’s move to Atletico Madrid in the summer.
Serge Aurier is unreliable while Kyle Walker-Peters is unproven so Mourinho could again turn to one of his old signings in the form of Dalot.
First-team football at Old Trafford has proved hard to come by for the Portuguese ace but he is not expected to break the bank and has shown enough attack promise to be an asset at Spurs.Tottenham transfer news: Diogo Dalot could bolster Spurs' right-back options (Image: GETTY)
Nemanja Matic (Manchester United)
Mourinho has signed Matic twice already during his career, first for Chelsea and then again for United.
The Serbian is heading towards the end of his career and is out of contract in the summer, so the Red Devils would jump at the chance to recoup some of the £40million transfer fee spent in 2017.
Matic is 31-years-old so would not be a long-term option at Tottenham, but he is a proven winner and trusted by Mourinho.Tottenham transfer news: Mourinho has already signed Nemanja Matic twice in his career (Image: GETTY)
