Qualcomm introduced the latest flagship processor aka Snapdragon 855 in December last year. All flagships this year including the Samsung Galaxy S10 series, OnePlus 7 series, among others, are powered by the Snapdragon 855 processor. The 7nm Snapdragon 855 chip comes in two variants -- one with 5G modem and the other without. Some new information coming from popular tipster Roland Quandt suggests that the scenario is going to be the same for the Snapdragon 865 too that is said to go official later this year.
The new leak reveals the name of the next generation flagship processor and some details of it. It suggests that the next-gen flagship processor from Qualcomm will be called Snapdragon 865 and it will succeed the current Snapdragon 855. The same leak also suggests that the Snapdragon 865 will come in two variants and both are said to go official by December this year like happened with the Snapdragon 855.
Similar to the Snapdragon 855, the Snapdragon 865 is said to come in two versions. One of the two chips is said to come packed with 5G modem while the other one will not and can be used in regular flagships and not 5G phones. Like every year we will see Android smartphone manufacturer launch phones with upcoming flagship processor - Snapdragon 865 -- next year, 2020.
According to a report leaked last week, Samsung has already bagged Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chips before TSMC could get the contract. This suggests that Samsung Galaxy S11 could be the first smartphone to be available with Snapdragon 865 chipset. Like this year we expect Samsung to launch two phones under the Galaxy S11 series and they are most likely going to be the Samsung Galaxy S11 and S11 Plus. There are also chances that Samsung will launch a 5G S11 phone next year like the company did this year. This year Xiaomi was the first smartphone manufacturer to launch a Snapdragon 855 phone. It was the Mi 9.
Samsung is yet to reveal details about the Galaxy S11 series. Currently, the South Korean smartphone manufacturer is working on the next generation Note aka the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. After the Samsung Galaxy S11 series we will also see other smartphones with Snapdragon 865 like the OnePlus 8, Huawei P40, Google Pixel 5, among others.
