“The Galaxy S11 5x optical zoom will be a jump from its predecessor Galaxy S10 series that offers 2x zoom”
Samsung Galaxy S11 smartphone, which won’t be launched until early next year, has started doing the rounds off the internet. Details about the next-gen flagship’s fingerprint scanner, display, software, RAM + storage configurations, and camera improvements have all been leaked. Now, information regarding the Galaxy S11 camera sensor and zooming capabilities has surfaced on the internet. The handset could be the first smartphone from Samsung to feature a staggering 108-megapixel camera and 5x optical zoom. The latter will be a jump from its predecessor Galaxy 10 series that offers 2x optical zoom. This means that the Galaxy S11 will offer better zoomed-in shots.
According to a report from the Korean publication The Elec – via industry sources, the Galaxy S11 will feature 5x optical zoom camera module, which Samsung has been working on since the start of the year. The handset is said to have a periscope-style camera setup – just like the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom. The setup is 5mm in thickness, which means it could fit inside Samsung’s flagship Galaxy Note 10+ with protrusion no more than the current 2x telephoto lens.
The Galaxy S11 is also reported to feature a 108-megapixel sensor. The sensor could be Samsung’s own ISOCELL Bright HMX, which was launched back in August. It’s the first mobile image sensor in the industry to go beyond 100 million pixels. The sensor is said to have a large 1/1.33-inch size, which can absorb more light in low-lit settings than smaller sensors. The pixel-merging Tetracell technology on the 108MP camera, meanwhile, features pixel-merging Tetracell technology that allows it to imitate big-pixel sensors, producing brighter 27MP images. The improvement in the camera is likely to boost the photography capabilities of the upcoming Galaxy S-series smartphone. It’ll help the phone to compete with Apple’s newly launched iPhone 11-series.
