Mi Mix 3 5G
- Xiaomi is expected to launch the Mi Mix 4 towards the end of 2019.
- The Mi Mix 4 could come with a 64MP main camera.
- Xiaomi has confirmed it won't be using Samsung's 64MP GW1 sensor.
Xiaomi is reportedly working on the successor to the Mi Mix 3 5G. To recall, the last Mi Mix phone was launched at MWC 2019 with a full-screen notchless OLED display, Snapdragon 855 chipset and 12MP dual camera setup. The Mi Mix 4 is now expected to launch towards the end of 2019 with a 64MP primary camera or something even better.
Wang Teng Thomas, Product Director at Xiaomi, confirmed via a post on Weibo that the Mi Mix 4 will offer a camera that will be "better than" the 64MP Samsung GW1 sensor, IANS reports. This is a pretty tall claim since we are yet to see what Samsung's 64MP sensor can offer. It also suggests that the Mi Mix 4 will either offer a 64MP camera from a different company or a higher megapixel camera sensor, both of which are currently non-existent. Samsung is the only company to have announced a 64MP ISOCELL sensor, while Sony is rumoured to be working on a 52MP camera sensor.
The post by the Xiaomi Product Director confirms that the Mi Mix 4 will definitely not use Samsung's 64MP GW1 sensor. Meanwhile, we are yet to see a phone with a 64MP GW1 sensor. Realme has confirmed that it will be the first to launch a smartphone using the Samsung sensor. Like other high megapixel sensors, the 64MP GW1 also uses pixel binning to offer brighter and sharper images.
We still do not know what the Mi Mix 4 will look like, but past rumours suggest the phone will come with IP68 certification for dust and water resistance. If this is true, it could mean that the Mi Mix 4 will not feature a pop-up selfie camera or slider mechanism like the Mi Mix 3 5G.
The Mi Mix 4 is widely expected to run on the Snapdragon 855 chipset that could be paired with a Snapdragon X50 5G modem to offer 5G support much like the Mi Mix 3 5G. It is unclear when the Mi Mix 4 will see the light of day, but with Xiaomi's Product Director talking about the flagship now, a late 2019 launch seems to be on the cards.
