Ian Wright has played down Manchester United’s chances of coming away from Anfield with a result and believes Liverpool could win the match ‘convincingly’.

Liverpool are on a 12-game winning streak in the Premier League following their 1-0 victory over Tottenham last weekend and sit 13 points above second-placed Leicester at the top of the table.

The Merseyside giants are overwhelming favourites heading into Sunday’s clash and United’s standout player this season, Marcus Rashford, has been ruled out with a back injury.

But the Red Devils can take encouragement from the fact they held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford back in October. Jurgen Klopp’s side have won every other match they have played in the English top flight this term.

However, Wright only sees one outcome this weekend and told Premier League Productions: ‘It’s got real history and we do build this game up and sometimes it gets so tense that sometimes it turns into a stale affair but [Jose] Mourinho’s not involved in this one so it should be pretty cool.

‘When you look at what Liverpool are doing right now and what Manchester United are doing… Manchester United can only literally try and maybe cause a little bit of an upset.

‘But I feel that the way that Liverpool are going, even when they ain’t playing well, it’s a game I can’t see them not winning.’

Wright added: ‘I’ve got to say, you go back as far as when Watford played them.

‘Watford caused Liverpool so many problems and you can maybe see Manchester United doing that but with no Marcus Rashford who’s gonna get on the ball to really give them the kind of penetration they need to continuously cause Liverpool problems… these are the things that I’m looking at.

‘I feel Liverpool can put even more of a statement down by beating Manchester United convincingly this time and I think that might happen.’

Despite the odds being stacked against them, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged his players to have ‘arrogance’ and believe in themselves at Anfield.

‘As a manager, I’ve had Liverpool on the opposite side twice and we’ve had different ways of approaching it,’ the Norwegian told United’s official website.

‘Just go there and have the confidence, the courage and the arrogance – in a good way. Go there and believe in yourself.

‘Handle the crowd, handle your team-mates. There are going to be tackles flying in – it’s a local derby. Just win your individual battles and stay emotionally in the game.

‘Control yourselves and just play the game.’

Solskjaer added: ‘Klopp is a great manager and he’s done a great job. He did a rebuilding job and he started almost from scratch.

‘We’ve started something, we want to get back to challenging for the league.

‘They are now challenging for the league, so well done. He’s a very nice man, as well. He’s a good manager and, of course, we do respect them.

‘They have proven with their results and performances that they do deserve that respect. I think we’ve shown them in the games that I’ve been here that we do prepare very well.’
